Devil’s DVD Advocacy: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

This is the missing review.  The review I should have written, but was too intimidated to write.  I was intimidated for numerous reasons, but mainly because I knew I wouldn’t do the film justice.  Well, I’m here right now, just a man with a keyboard and a blog, read by ones of hundreds each week, with my heart on my sleeve.  I still won’t do Scott Pilgrim vs The World justice, but I can at least try, and in the end that is all anyone can do. Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (Lonely Devil Review)

Another summer of comic-book movies (Kick Ass, Iron Man 2). When is Hollywood going to actually start coming up with new and original ideas? Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is the latest cut and paste movie to hit movie theaters this year. This latest comic book to movie adaptation is brought to us by the director of two great movies, Edgar Wright (Shawn Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz). This time he tries his hands at directing what must be the most bizarre romance in movie history. I’ll try to explain it. Read the rest of this entry

Episode 36: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Rene, Jonathan, and Mike are back this week to discuss Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

The conversation, like the film, is all over the place, but at its core, like the film, is all heart.  Listen as they examine comic book adaptation, video game homage, and could a romantic comedy survive without the romance?

Give us a listen for tips on defeating your own set of evil exes.

Happy Anniversary To Us

That’s right folks, it was one year ago today that our first film reviews went live. We were in our infancy stage and can now consider ourselves in the toddler stage.

To commemorate the event, Naveen had the brilliant idea of going around and taking photos of ourselves in front of movie posters, for films that we’re anticipating (in some cases, not so much). Read the rest of this entry

The Comic Book Movie You Should Be Excited For

Unlucky in love? Get dumped? Get beaten up by your girlfriend’s seven evil exes?  Didn’t think so.

This is the premise of Universal’s latest comic book adaptation, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.  Now I know that the film has the two most oversaturated things in Hollywood right now…those being comic books and Michael Cera, but this trailer has me excited.  From the look of it, the film blends the action of a comic book, with the style of a video game, which is what Scott Pilgrim is at its core.  Give the trailer a look and tell us what you think.
