Raising Arizona is the strangest kidnapping movie I’ve ever seen, and the funniest.
H.I. McDunnough (Nicolas Cage) is a failure of a criminal. After multiple arrests following a string of failed convenience store robberies, he proposes to one of the corrections officers in the prison, and upon his next release marries her and settles down. Having married, H.I’s wife Edwina (Holly Hunter) has decided that the next natural step is to have a child.

This month’s Actor Spotlight is on the great Ron Perlman. Ron Perlman has had a very long career in both movies and tv. He’s also done a ton of voice over work for video games and cartoons. You may not recognize the face or the name sometimes, but I am pretty sure you’ve seen something Perlman’s been in. From the old Beauty And The Beast tv show from the early 90′s to a memorable co-starring turn in Blade 2, the man has done it all. Heck, he’s even the voice of the narrator of the Fallout games. Kick-Ass is half awesome, half boring as the growing grass. As someone on Twitter commented to me, it should be called “Half-Assed.” For me, the far more exciting second half was enough to overcome the turgid beginning, but that may not be the case for audience members less swayed by over-the-top violence and fun stupidity. We’ve all heard the folklore of Merlin the Magician and when we think the words, Wizard or Sorcerer, Merlin would mostly come to mind. So when in the likeness of Fantasia and the feel of Pirates of the Caribbean, it was only fitting that Disney and Producer Jerry bruckheimer, would once again come together to bring the Sorcerer’s Apprentice to the big screen.
