Followers of geek news sites or “news of the weird” sections of papers may have noticed that incidents of real-life masked vigilantism have been on the rise in recent years. The idea of anonymous “everymen” out there, fed up with an ineffective law enforcement and judicial system, taking matters into their own hands and answering to no one is something that most everyone has probably thought of at one time or another, but not something that anybody actually wants, especially considering that anybody who would actually go and do this would no doubt be somewhat mentally unstable to begin with.

Devil’s DVD Advocacy: Inception

Christopher Nolan follows up his blockbuster The Dark Knight with a film that goes back to his Memento or even The Prestige ways with a true puzzler of a film called Inception. Trying to tap those roots, Nolan tries to please the mind more than the eyes.  Don’t get me wrong there is plenty of action to be had, especially in the second half of the film.

Rene, Jonathan, Monnie, and Mike are back with their take on Inception. Listen as they discuss characterizations, who’s the real antagonist of the film, and what the ending really meant.

It’s tough to be original in Hollywood these days. Sure, you can occasionally find a unique idea or two, but if it’s too new, producers won’t want to back it. Instead, they’d prefer tried and true ideas that have proven themselves capable of making money. Whip It, the directorial debut of Drew Barrymore and starring Ellen Page, does not cover any new ground in the area of coming-of-age tales, except maybe the concept of roller derby as a means of belonging. Instead, it embraces the classics and reminds its audience of the ability to imbue oneself with initiative and pride and to fulfill anything one desires.
